Oh, so you want to know which bands I’m most excited to see? No. Well fuck you. This ain’t your blog is it? Go write your own preview. As for me, I will be enjoying the company of the Donnybrook elite at the following shows:

Saturday

I’m very interested in seeing DANIELLE ATE THE SANDWICH because I missed her at the UMS. Of course GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV is a local must see and I’ve heard great things about local band SPEAKEASY TIGER so I’ll have to finally(!) catch that show.

Having just read a great review of THE ANTLERS new album I’d like to see what they’re all about.

Next up is CYMBALS EAT GUITARS which are featured on this here Snobcast with the very ruckus song “And The Hazy Sea”. Also featured here is the song “Under Attack (Woodhands Live Remix)” which leads me to believe the WOODHANDS set will be epic.

I absolutely love THESE UNITED STATES, a band who are HUGE right now (better recognize) and I happen to know a lot of you adore them as well. Speaking of These United States, the first time I saw them was also the first time I finally caught the awesome THAO WITH THE GET DOWN STAY DOWN at the Hi-Dive. A combo worth watching.

DOOM is easily my favorite hip-hop weirdo. You probably don’t know of the masked man known as MF Doom aka Zev Love X aka Viktor Vaughn aka King Geedorah aka Metal Fingers but you should. I assure this to be one of the strangest sets of the weekend. The one band that could out weird Doom would be OF MONTREAL, of course. I’ve heard amazing things about them live and would put them as my second most must see (after headliners the YEAH YEAH YEAHS ). That pretty much rounds out the first day.

Oh wait, I almost forgot about GIRL TALK. If the Monolith curators are as smart as we give them credit for they will have put Girl Talkin the post-headliners, after-hours-dance-party slot.

Sunday

I can’t imagine anything better for the inevitable hang-over of Sunday than to wake up to the effervescent sounds of Donnybrook BFFs JIM MCTURNAN & THE KIDS THAT KILLED THE MAN. Jim (formerly of Cat-a-tac) is back with a new backing band and better than ever before without really changing styles all that much. I could say how you should go see THE KNEW play but I know all of you will already be there. These guys are HUGE. With all the great Denver bands playing this year I really hope the desidedly hipster-hop stylings of THE PIRATE SIGNAL aren’t over-shadowed by their more indie-rock peers. Yonnas rocks the mic harder than most of the rock bands attending. Rounding out the awesome local bands warming-up Sundays stages are the very polite boys in Boulder electro-rock outfit SAVOY. I haven’t heard their music yet but when I met them at the Beetroots concert they were nothing but genial.

By now I’m sure everyone knows what to expect from THE TWILIGHT SAD: epic, sad bastard, and epic.

These United States BFFs DEER TICK are on fire these days as well so you bet I will be swaying along to their brand of folk-rock with one arm around Jesse of TUS.

All the way from Australia THE GRATES are a band that I have a weird relationship with in that I have talked about them (and even almost gotten thrown out of my apartment building for putting their stickers all over) way more than I’ve even listened to their music. Well that will change this year. They are awesome and I can’t wait to praise them the way they deserve (maybe by crowd-surfing naked or something similar).

While I really like THE THERMALS I was disappointed with them live at SXSW. I’m not sure if they will be getting a second chance from me. Probably only if my other option is RAHZEL, another person I totally dig on record but has let me down in person. I especially feel bad for those groups when they might very well be up against PASSION PIT, just about the very most hipster adored band of the whole weekend.

Sunday being the less exciting of the two days the only late-in-the-day band that I’m really intrigued by is PHOENIX.They recently had a sold-out show here at the Bluebird theater. I was sorry to miss it but knew that I’d be catching them in September. Must see!! That’s not to say I don’t like the rest of the line-up, its just that I’ve seen THE DANDY WARHOLS and METHOD MAN & REDMAN and I know what to expect from CHROMEO and MSTRKRFT and it’s pretty much the same thing. As for THE MARS VOLTA, well I’ll be honest, if it starts to rain as it has in the past, I’ll probably leave.

Whatever you go to see don’t forget to be on your best behavior when in the presence of the Donnybrook elite. See you on the Rocks.

The Love Language is playing the first day. I caught them at the hi dive earlier this year. They’re my favorite new band 2009. Don’t miss them!

That’s right. How did I miss that. I meant to include their song “Lalita” in this Snobcast. Oops.

    Cotton Jones

Don’t forget to check out Harlem Shakes! One of our favorite albums of 2009!

Donnybrook loves the Harlem Shakes too! http://godonnybrook.com/home/?p=2869

    Their set is highly anticipated…

Just dying to see The Pirate Signal especially Yonnas rocking the mic harder than anyone I know

Ditto Vickie. Yonnas is the man. If you want to see just how much we at Donnybrook love this guy click this link: http://godonnybrook.com/home/?p=3842

Why no metal bands? Every festival usually has one stage devoted to sweet metal bands. Monolith seems to be anti-metal. Next year I want to see Torche, Young Widows, To Be Eaten and Adai on the bill.

    Monotonix should be kick ass.

    Re: The Bartender
    And mutha fuckin’ TAUNTAUN!!!!!!!!!

    Re: JB:
Interesting, I just got a press release for Monotonix in my inbox. Was that you?

    I got that one too… Wasn’t me, I swear.

Also, nix what I said before about Harlem Shakes, they have mysteriously disappeared from the Monolith schedule. Weak.
