Jason Urban is Printeresting

I recently stumbled upon one of Jason Urban’s works on Faesthetic’s blog, announcing his new Website – jasonurban.com. I’ve called him about an interview, and I’ll definitely let you know when we hear back, but for now, I just wanted to share a few of his recent gems. I’ve always been a big fan of collage, but as you’ll see, Urban takes it to another dimension with his 3-D architecture and precise geometry.

His educational background in art and printmaking certainly shows (a BFA in Studio Arts from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and both an MA & MFA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa). Anyone studying the medium will learn a lot from him — and actually can, at the University of Texas at Austin, where he teaches Printmaking and Foundations Drawing. He is also a co-founder of the very cool Printeresting.org – “the thinking person’s favorite online resource for interesting printmaking miscellany.”

These first images comes from a collection that he put together at the beginning of the year while on residence at Caldera up in Sisters, Oregon. The last few are from a 3D collage he did last year called “Hard-Edged Sea.”

Definitely make it over to his site to check out the rest, and stay tuned to see if he grants us that interview.

Oh, and if you’re an internet nerd like us and love Threadless tees, his The Sailor & the Sea Serpent shirt was voted best Select Design of 2008.
