Local radio is supposed to be shitty, right? I remember listening to the local show on the college station in my hometown, feeling a sense of charity. I was *helping* these shitty bands out by listening to their filth created in their mom’s basement. How nice was I?
But it says something when a station’s Music Director, the resident bigshot, hosts the local show. It shows priorities. I remember first tuning in to Local Shakedown and hearing the sweet Katherine Peterson spinning the most excellent music made by all my friends and favorite local bands, old and new, and feeling nostalgic and amazed at our section of life sparkling over the radio waves. I’m sure that capturing such knowledge and actually getting someone to let you broadcast it is a much harder task than we realize (psst! donate to 1190!), but the fact that our little slice of music scene is primo doesn’t hurt.
If you’re too good for local radio like I was, I urge you to check out these bands this Saturday at the Hi-Dive: Bad Luck City, Denver’s deep dark Gothic country version of Nick Cave; Overcasters, our thunderous local supergroup; and indie-rockers Cowboy Curse, releasing a highly anticipated new album, “Negative Pills.” And we have a little sampling of that album for you today, dearest readers. Great fucking song. So excited to hear new stuff from Cowboy Curse.
Mr. Rutherford is a man of impeccable taste. This song is fanfuckingtastic, and new choons from the Curse are dearly awaited.
clarification for clarification’s sake-
cowboy curse will not be releasing an album this weekend called Negative Pills. it’s doubtful we’ll release an album in traditional form ever again due to our current recording/release philosophy and the fact that it’s just impractical for us.
we will release some songs from time to time in some shape or form for our devoted 17.4 fans to adore.
