Many of the best acts in the history of modern music have staked their claim by defying generic categorization, a predilection heavily favored by Ohio duo mr. Gnome. Their sound lands somewhere between Portishead’s smoky mysticism and Kinski’s bang-your-head-till-it-bleeds violence. Which, of course, is not much of a description but that is precisely what the twosome is shooting for: confounding expectations, avoiding pigeonholes.
mr. Gnome’s first full-length, Deliver This Creature, will be released on May 6th by El Marko Records–expect the blogosphere to fawn shortly thereafter. In the meantime, listen to “Rabbit,” Creature‘s second track:
