Snobcast Recap:2007.6

Written by  //  December 20, 2007  //  The Conservatory  //  3 Comments

Awww, the Best-Of list. Everybody longs to have the definitive outlook, but nobody ever gets it right. So here’s what we will be doing: We will be analyzing the year end lists of some other “reputable” music publications, I’ll sort of edit them accordingly to fit my preferences, and then play those songs on the Snobcast. Then you, the reader, can tell me what you think should stay; what should go; and what should be added or subtracted from the list/playlist. In the end we will have compiled the definitive Best of 2007 list.

This is who has been dismissed from and who has been added to the list:

Additions: Subtractions:
Miranda Lambert Burial
Amy Winehouse Radiohead
The Fratellis The Black Lips
Talib Kweli Santogold
Feist Menomena
El-P Panda Bear
Battles Justice
Jay-Z Yelle
The New Pornographers Earlimart
The Shins The Mary Onettes
Modest Mouse Patty Griffin
The Pipettes
Devin the Dude

Best-Of revealed after the jump.

The next list comes from Pop Matters. They are superb list makers. Best of seen. I’m not saying the content is great so don’t jump on my case about Miranda Lambert being in the #2 spot. Speaking of which, after seeing the aforementioned country tart on so many lists I was finally convinced to play her music. The song I’ve posted from her is called “Gunpowder and Lead” and it’s not that bad. What do you think? I’m I smoking crack? Or could she be a sassier Lucinda Williams? Whatever you think about it just listen to the Snobcast. It’s got some great first time additions to our list making experiment including: The Fratellis, Talib Kweli, and The Pipettes.

Here’s their list:

Go check out Pop Matters. I just can’t reprint their list here because you should really go see it for yourself. They did such an exceptional job of creating a list that breaks down their choices in to genre specific Best-Of lists all with videos and commentary. I just wouldn’t be able to do it justice here.
