Behind This Week’s Snobcast:

This is definitely a hip-hop set, but, so as not to alienate my hipster following, I start this week with some sweet new(ish) indie-rock tracks you all should enjoy, including: the early single (album out in September) from Chicago “math-rockers” Bound Stems and one wicked crazy Junior Boys remix of Swedish disco princess and enigma, Sally Shapiro. Is it true Sally Shapiro refuses to perform live or reveal her real name? That shit is gangsta.

That being said, this week’s Snobcast goes out to my backpack totin’, fat-cap packin’, true-school hip-hop heads.

Over the winter Atmosphere put out a download only album Strictly Leakage to satiate the fans before dropping the recent When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold. If you missed that, you’ll especially enjoy that track. Then I step back in time to the heydey of “conscious” hip-hop with ATCQ and Nas. Then the King of New York (Jay-Z) bookends a Southern rap set which includes one of my favorite “old”-school southern rappers, 8-Ball. All of you that only know Cee-Lo Green from Gnarls Barkley should check for his ill verse on the 8-Ball track. I’m not saying Goodie Mob was better than Gnarls Barckley, but I do think Cee-Lo was dope long before he met Danger Mouse.
