We are all aware of that utmost repelling franchise in the music industry known as Now That’s What I Call Music. What many of you may not know is that this purveyor of “hits” actually started in the UK (just like American Idol) and spans at least 25 countries and close to 700 seperate releases. If you go back and look at some of those early 80′s editions you might actually find some music you would want to listen to today. Would you like to know where I’m going with this?

I was thinking about that most generic of music genres: pop. Pop music originally meant popular music but it can also refer to a type of sound in music. I’m not alone in wondering why so much shit ends up as hits when there are artists out there who could easily be appreciated by the lowest common denominator. Is Flo Rida really more accessible than Kevin Drew? or is it all an image thing?

Anyway, what I have compiled here this month is my version of Now That’s What I Call Music! Ironically both Beyonce and Timberlake show up on the most recent Now! compilation. Justin actually shows up twice. But that’s just the thing. I’m not a hater. I understand why both of those high-profile artists are in the mainstream. They’re muy talented. Unfortunately, they have to share the spotlight with the likes of Ciara, T-Pain and fucking Jamie Foxx!
