Snobcast Recap: 2007.10

Written by  //  December 27, 2007  //  The Conservatory  //  1 Comment

Awww, the Best-Of list. Everybody longs to have the definitive outlook, but nobody ever gets it right. So here’s what we will be doing: We will be analyzing the year end lists of some other “reputable” music publications, I’ll sort of edit them accordingly to fit my preferences, and then play those songs on the Snobcast. Then you, the reader, can tell me what you think should stay; what should go; and what should be added or subtracted from the list/playlist. In the end we will have compiled the definitive Best of 2007 list.

This is who has been dismissed from and who has been added to the list:

Additions: Subtractions:
Kings of Leon Jamie T
Wilco Maroon 5
Against Me! Kanye West
The Shins Miranda Lambert
The Hives Von Sudenfed
Panda Bear Kevin Drew
Modest Mouse The Black Lips
Peter Bjorn & John Jens Lekman
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club DJ Kicks/Hot Chip
Bat for Lashes Timberland
Say Anything Jason Isbell
Bonde do Role Mary Gauthier
Dizzee Rascal Battles
  Vampire Weekend

Best-Of revealed after the jump.

Today we have 2 features for ya so let’s set it up like a challenge.

Spin vs. MOJO

Spin stated back in August when New Wave came out that Against Me! had made the rock album of the year and then they stuck by their convictions by labeling it the best album of the year. I have to agree with them on the first statement at least, but album of the year? I don’t know.

MOJO must be another British magazine (I can be bothered to check anymore) because there’s Arctic Monkeys and TGTB&TQ in the top ten.

Spin has more variety in 40 albums than MOJO has in 50.

MOJO diversifies by including Yoko Ono and Thurston Moore.

We’ll, that wasn’t much of a challenge to me, what do you think?

Here’s a few more reason’s why I read Spin: #30 Brother Ali, #34 Bat for Lashes, and #39 Turbonegro.
