Waywardpanties.com also does a pretty good job of this if you wanted any creative inspiration.
Although I just looked at her weekly picks and I’m not sure I should stand behind someone who endorses Billy Joel. $100 dollar show are stupid. I guess there isn’t much better going on for Thursday.
There’s the difference right there. Although I love waywardpanties (much more than docilepanties), soundcheck will be exclusively local bands.
I think $100 shows are stupid, too, but nevertheless we like to give people their options. It’s not our money they’re spending anyhow.
I forgot other people use the internet too. I thought I was the only one, and thus every site should be tailored to my very specific needs. A sincere thank you for reminding me that there are “others”.
Billy Joel rocks my world. Billy Joel is the new Journey. You can tell them Angora said that. No more brawling out “Don’t Stop Believin’” in seedy jukebox joints; no, Sopranos ruined that. Now it’s “The Piano Man,” and let me tell you, the “la-dah-dah, diddy-dah”s make for good drunken fun. I hope the Wayward Panties ladies see this: I salute you!
But I won’t be paying $100; guest lists write themselves when we walk past the bouncers. It’s magic. Either that, or I’ll fellate Billy Joel.
I think Billy would like that. I think he would like that very much.
I just called Billy for you Angora, he’s dedicating The Piano Man to you on Thursday.
And for people who can’t pay the $100 to see a show we did recommend The XYZ Affair at the hi-dive as an alternative. These guys are getting so much love I think they are fellating the blogosphere. Virtually, of course.
Blasphemy, Angora, BLASPHEMY i say!!! Journey is the new Journey. Don’t Stop Believin’ always has been and always will be. It Was before there was a Here, and it will be here after there is a Here no longer. When God was making the world, he listened to that song on repeat. When God makes mixtapes for his friends, that song is track 1. True story.
SING US A SONG, YOU’RE THE PIANOMAN!
SING US A SONG, TONIIIIIIIGHT!
CUZ WE’RE ALL IN THE MOOD FOR A MELODY!
AND YOU’VE GOT US FEELIN’ ALRIIIIIGHT!
Updates:
-I might have a fever, one that seems to be affecting my judgment
-my coworker Jamie said that not only is she attending said $100 concert, but that Billy Joel is a GOD in New Jersey, where she hails from
-the word “fellate” has now been used TWICE in these here comments. That’s why we love us.
Thanks, Tiffany!
P.S. – nothing will ever change our special shared moment involving Journey, Ivyy. Nothing.
Can I also add to your local shows on Saturday the following?
Paper Bird and Ian Cooke at the Mercury Theater
Red Orange Yellow with The Chain Gang of 1974 at the Larimer Lounge
Hearts of Palm (formerly Nathan and Stephen) CD release at Illegal Pete’s
Rock (locally)!
Yes! You can always add to our local shows. Thanks!
Wait Hearts of Palm are playing a show? When and which location? I hate their new name.
Nevermind, Saturday.
I hate their new name, too. Hopefully, they still sound as good as when they were named Nathan & Stephen. Does anyone know why they changed their name?

Does anyone know what time this CD release party is supposed to kick off. I can’t seem to find this information anywhere. I would call the place, but I’m trying to prove that the internet makes all forms of communication, including verbal communication, obsolete. It’s not going so well.
You can see it on both Nathan and Stephen and Illegal Pete’s myspace pages.
It’s at the downtown location on Saturday N&S say it starts at 8, but Illegal Pete’s says 9 so I’m not sure about that. But, I hear they are giving away free EPs, too.
I will most definitely have to work that night, but hopefully be able to make it down there before the festivities have all but ended. Oh and the reason I couldn’t find it anywhere is my work internet filter is akin to a gay Hitler. It’s very restrictive.
Why would a band just beginning to be recognized change it’s name?
Well, how I understand it, Nathan & Stephen were once just the songs of Nathan McGarvey and Stephen Till. They are now nine people making songs, and Nathan and Stephen being the antithesis of egomaniacs, I believe, wanted to have a more inclusive name. Thus the birth of Hearts of Palm.
I suspect the name feeling right for those in the band far outweighed what anybody else might think about it. I haven’t asked them, but that’s my interpretation of the deal.
It’s still a dumb name. They should have jumped on the bandwagon and named themselves after a bodily function like poo poo. That would have been much better.
I definitely got that from them – that it started out as Nathan and Stephen, but then shitloads more people came into the picture.
But that kind of made it funny and ironic. Like, to someone who didn’t know them, they’d expect two dudes with like, an acoustic and a bongo to come onstage, and instead nine excited crazy maniacs come onstage. Way cooler. I like playing with peoples’ expectations. Bring back Nathan and Stephen!
Yes, I too appreciated the irony and giggles of having a near dozen folks be “Nathan & Stephen ” but apparently that hilarity (not to mention the loss of marketing from name recognition already built up) wasn’t so important to them.
Though… come to think of it, as much talk as the name change is getting, it would almost seem like a super slick marketing move to gain even more attention than ever.
there’s a guy at sputnik that wears his nathan & stephen t-shirt regularly. does anybody know if those t-shirts are american apparel?
