The Problem of Leisure
I know we haven’t done this for a while, but it’s time to embarrass the fuck out of one of our friends. This weekend, we’d like to honor the day of birth of our dear friend Wes. Happy Birthday Wes! Rock on, brother.
What is the rest of Donnybrook doing this weekend?
Madden Madrid McClintock:
Friday night is the night for music in Denver.
At the Larimer Lounge, two local favorites – the Swayback and Laylights – are coming out of their recording studio slumbers to try out some new material on their fans. Blue Million Miles is opening.
Also that night, old-school cheeseball MC Tone Loc is rocking Martini Ranch‘s third anniversary. Admission is $10, but the nostalgia surfing is free.
And at the Oriental that same night, the Railbenders are headlining a killer fundraiser for the Cash Scanlon Phillips Healing Garden at the new Children’s Hospital – an outdoor space where visitors can spend time away from the pain that may be associated with what’s going on inside the hospital.
Col. Hector Bravado:
I’m going to park at the Super Target and punch myself in the cock until I black out.
Friday – Laylights and Swayback at Larimer Lounge!!!! a line-up you can’t miss!
Saturday – Laylights some more – at Michael Trundle‘s birthday, with free beer and stuff. 2936 Larimer Street. Need to print the invite to get in.
Tuesday – Lenny Kravitz at paramount. Never seen him live. Totally wanna.
Guido Sarducci IV:
Lupe Fiasco hasn’t been able to “Kick, Push” his way past the early hype that surrounded his first effort, ’06s Food & Liquor. This is unfortunate considering he’s this generations answer to the eminent group, A Tribe Called Quest. His rhymes are fun and intelligent and never plummet into the usual benighted and boorish blather that most MCs rely on today. That is probably why you haven’t heard him. Too bad his new album The Cool probably won’t change that. Sunday night is your chance to hear for yourself. The show starts at 8pm at the Gothic Theater.
Ivyy Goldberg Esq.:
Ok seriously, if you’re not gonna be at the Larimer Lounge
Friday night for Blue Million Miles, Laylights, and the
Swayback, then you better have a damn good excuse.
Really, where else would you be?
And Saturday my good friend Wes turns 31, so we’ll
probably get him drunk. Here’s a picture of Wes being
